Default Met a hacker not sure what to do...

Tonight me and my guild met a hacker that goes by bob(on TS). He was a all around jerk and destroyed our fourms.

He hacked one of my friends and threatened to delete his account, what should I do? Because he was using my friend's account to tell us so if i report, my friend will get banned. I took a screencap.

Make sure that it wasn't your friend being stupid.

Get your friend to change password possibly email address on account

Get your friend to contact ANET with your screenshots as backup.

get him to scan his comp, just in case there is a keylogger there.. then hope that everything works out.

That's why you don't use the same password on GW as you do on a forum.

Uh.. from past posts here, there are a few people who have secure comps, have decent security when it comes to passwords and still have their account hacked...

And I know that it wasn't my friend that was being stupid.
The hacker only lives down the street from him so he might have made a mistake . If he is able to get back into guildwars i'll have him do all that.

If he lives down the street he isnt a hacker, hackers dont hack people down the street.

Idiots that someone used to call friends are people that do stuff like that.

It wasn't a hacker. It was a cyberidiot. Hackers don't 'hack' to destroy; we hack for the hell of it.

Imagine the shock of a sysadmin when I send them an email from themself saying, "Hi, I just wanted to let you know that your system is vulnerable. No damage done, here is a link to the fix."

If he calls himself a "hacker", tell him to suck a duck. A "hacker" is a n00bie term used to describe someone trying to scare people by making statements like "I pwnz your IP."

A person who could do some damage is called a "cracker," and a real cracker wouldn't waste his time dealing with forums - I'm pretty sure he'd much rather be interested in bank accounts.

Calling that joker a "hacker" is like calling a shoplifter a political protester.

(I'm running out of clever analogies ...)

Let me help you.

Calling that joker a cracker is like calling a shoplifter Charles Manson.

Once again, your head is up your ass...

As for the OP, do not give out your, or your friend's account. And regarding forum hijacks, NEVER, under any circumstances, give someone shell access on your server where the MySQL files can be written to and/or accessed.

If your forums are based on a PHP/mysql system, one of you gave someone access in the past, and now are paying for it. If they are based some other way, the culprit is, most likely, not dissimilar. Keep your mod team small and filled with people you know, and that cuts your worries way down.
